David Ashley was elected to Council to represent Ward Four in a by-election in November of 2015. After a short period of acclimation he became the chair of the Finance and Administration Committee.
I have been a cottager on Georgian Bay for 50 years, since the first invitation to visit from my then future wife. (I passed the test.) We have never missed a summer on the Bay and, since my retirement, have spent the majority of all our summers here. Early on we were focused on family but over time became more involved in the community. For eight years prior to being elected I was the Treasurer and a member of the Executive Committee of the Sans Souci and Copperhead Association.
Professionally, I am a CPA (Chartered Accountant) who has been a financial director ofa multi-national company in four countries. (Canada, Brazil, Egypt and the United States) In line with my belief in community involvement and service, over the years I have been the Commanding Officer of HMCS York, the Naval Reserve Division in Toronto, President of the Scarborough Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Campaign Cabinet of the United Way of Greater Toronto.
Our cottage is a family cottage with my children and grandchild spending as much time there as possible. When we were living overseas the cottage was the rock that anchored our children to Canada.
