Re: Unfair Proposed OPP Funding Model
Dear Premier Wynne and Minister Naqvi:
I wish to express my deep concerns regarding the Liberal government's proposed OPP funding model. As a resident of Ontario, I expect your government to deliver police services in a fair and equitable manner that is efficient and sustainable. But the model that you are proposing is fundamentally flawed. I firmly believe that no municipality should be required to pay for crime committed in any other municipality. As well, the proposed 73/27 fixed/variable formula excludes commercial/industrial development—always an attractor of crime. Finally, using households to allocate costs is completely inappropriate for a water-based community.
The cost impact to me and my rural municipality, The Township of The Archipelago, is inequitable and is totally unacceptable. I ask you to reconsider your proposed funding model.
I will expect your response via return email.
Resident and Taxpayer, Township of The Archipelago
