Large Item Disposal

Large Items


For their convenience, residents in the southern portion of The Archipelago are able to dispose of large items such as furniture, beds and appliances, free of charge, during regular hours of operation at the following transfer stations:
  • Crane Lake
  • Devil's Elbow
  • Healey Lake
  • Sheep Head
  • Woods Bay

This free service is limited to a one time use for each property, once per year. After this one time use, applicable fees will apply to  large items. 

The new Waste By-Law 22-08 is now in effect. Please see Schedule A of the new by-law for accepted items.

Video surveillance is in effect at all waste facilities. Anyone found contravening the Waste By-Law  will be subject to enforcement action (Section 6 - Penalties).

Large Item Disposal Days

The Township also schedules free large item disposal days for residents located in the northern portion of The Archipelago in the Bayfield, Pointe au Baril and Skerryvore neighbourhoods. 

Please click on the items listed below for 2024 scheduled dates and a listing of acceptable large items.

Large Item Disposal Days at the Bayfield Landing Dock will take place on:
  • Sunday, June 23rd: 9:00am - 4:00pm
  • Sunday, August 4th: 9:00am - 4:00pm

Large item days at the Bayfield Landing Dock are intended for those arriving by boat only.  Road access residents are reminded that they can drop off their large items at the Site 9 Landfill on these dates. 

Large items may be dropped off at Site 9 during all its scheduled hours of operation. Tipping fees are in effect except on Large Item Disposal Days .

Large Item Disposal Days at the Pointe au Baril Wharf will take place on:
  • Saturday, June 22nd: 9:00am - 4:00pm
  • Saturday, August 3rd: 9:00am - 4:00pm

Note:

Large trucks require access to the dock in order to facilitate the placement and removal of waste bins.  The movement of additional vehicles at the dockside presents a safety hazard to staff and the public.  Large item days at the Pointe au Baril Wharf are therefore intended for those arriving by boat only.

 LARGE ITEM DISPOSAL DAYS FOR SKERRYVORE RESIDENTS WILL TAKE PLACE ON: 
  • Sunday, September 8th: 10:00am to 8:00pm

Residents of the Township of The Township may dispose of the following large items free of charge on the scheduled large item days:
 
Household Furniture
e.g. tables, chairs, couches, portable cabinets, portable book shelves, beds and dressers
 
Outdoor Items
e.g. barbeques, chairs, picnic tables, umbrellas, lawnmowers and garden tractors (oil and fuel removed)
 
Non-motorized Vessels
e.g. paddleboards, laser sailboats, canoes, kayaks
 
Appliances
e.g. cooking stoves, washers, dryers, dishwashers, fridges, freezers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers
 
Please note that, where applicable, refrigerant must be removed from appliances prior to disposal of these items at a Large Item Day event.
The following items will not be accepted during the Township's scheduled large item days:
  • household waste
  • blue box recycling materials
  • containers of gas, oil, paint etc.
  • propane tanks
  • tools and/or equipment
  • tires
  • batteries and/or cell phones
  • automobiles or recreational vehicles, in whole or in part
  • boats, in whole or in part, including outboards
  • small equipment and/or tools
  • old sheds, dog houses etc.
  • electronics e.g. televisions, computers, printers, satellite receivers
  • small appliances and equipment e.g. microwaves, toasters, portable heaters, humidifiers
  • construction waste e.g. drywall, plywood, windows, doors, plumbing and electrical items
