Community Wildland Fire Protection Plan

The Township of The Archipelago is pleased to advise that it has been awarded funding from the Ministry of Natural Resources to develop the community’s first Wildland Fire Protection Plan. To support this important initiative, the Township has retained a Ministry-trained contractor to professionally prepare the plan in accordance with Ministry standards and best practices. As part of this work, forest hazard mapping will be undertaken to identify areas within the Township that may present an increased wildland fire risk, based on Ministry of Natural Resources standards and assessment methods.

This information will help identify local vulnerabilities, improve preparedness, support informed land-use and emergency planning, and strengthen the Township’s ability to protect residents, visitors, property, and natural areas. Developing a Community Wildland Fire Protection Plan allows the Township to better understand risk, prioritize mitigation opportunities, and promote a coordinated, resilient approach to public safety in the face of increasing wildfire risk.

Public input is an important part of this process, and residents are encouraged to complete the survey below to help inform the development of the plan.  The survey will be open from May 1st - June 19th.  Paper copies are available at the Township office.
